David King, ICT senior fiscal operations manager, is responsible for ensuring that all ICT projects are properly funded, on schedule, on budget, and are making adequate progress. In addition, he also monitors incoming grant money for ICT and provides advice to ensure sufficient budgets and smooth operations. King started at ICT in 2006 as a resource and policy analyst.
King says he enjoys the variety of tasks his position offers and the people he interacts with. He says, “I really enjoy getting to know the students who come through ATREL. It’s neat to see them develop from new graduate students to world-class researchers.” He also adds that his coworkers at ICT make coming to work enjoyable every day.
King has 40 years of state and local government agency service. Before coming to ICT, King was the executive director/public health administrator for the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District. He has also worked for the Illinois Department of Public Health, Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and Illinois Department of Transportation. A graduate of Cornell University in New York, King holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a master’s degree in public administration.
He lives in Champaign with his wife, Sandy. They have two daughters. Outside of work, King is a big fan of Illini sports—particularly basketball.
