Jim Meister, senior research engineer, has been a fixture at ICT almost since its beginning. Before becoming a full-time employee in 2007, he worked at the Advanced Transportation Research and Engineering Lab (ATREL) as a student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Meister wears many different hats in his role at ICT, assisting with a variety of aspects of facility and equipment maintenance, information technology, and research. Additionally, he trains graduate students on laboratory procedures and how to effectively perform testing to ensure accurate results. He states, “I really like the variety of my position. It’s not a cookie-cutter job. On a daily basis, I interact with lots of different people and do lots of different projects.”
Meister holds a B.S. degree in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an A.S. degree from Parkland College. Previously, he served in the United States Marine Corps for seven years, retiring as a staff sergeant in 2000.
