The Federal Aviation
Administration is in the process of developing advanced tools
for the design and analysis of airfield pavements. The primary
objectives of this project are to evaluate current design procedures
utilizing the powerful 3-D nonlinear finite element analysis technique
and realistic material models and to make recommendations toward
the feasibility of incorporating such a tool in future design
procedures. The present scope of the work is focused on the analysis
of flexible (asphaltic) overlays placed on either flexible or
rigid bases. |
