A testing program
was initiated to determine the fracture behavior of concrete slabs
reinforced with steel and synthetic, discrete fibers, wire mesh,
and plain concrete under monotonic loading. Full-scale slabs were
cast and tested at the University of Illinois Advanced Transportation
Research and Engineering Laboratory (ATREL). The research is exploring
the effects of various fiber types and volume fractions on the
full-scale monotonic behavior of concrete slabs-on-grade. Furthermore,
the testing of slabs includes comparison of the full-scale test
results with comparative test results of simply-supported beams
in terms of tensile strength, flexural strength, ultimate strength,
and fracture toughness. |
