Erosion & Sediment Control Workshop

The 2014 scheduled is posted and registration opened on Tuesday, February 11, 2014.

The three modules offered in this workshop series are designed for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) contractors, inspectors, designers and others interested in erosion and sediment control and storm water management best management practices (BMPs) for a sustainable environment. Successful completion of the Fundamentals Module is required before taking the Design or Construction Modules. Join the Notification List to receive schedule announcements and changes.


Module I: Fundamentals of Storm Water Pollution and Erosion and Sediment Control

This two-day module presents the following four topics:

• Fundamentals of Hydrology &Soil Erosion

• Regulations Related to Erosion and Sediment Control

• BMPs for Erosion and Sediment Control

• Inspection of Erosion and Sediment Control Measures


In addition to the course materials, hands-on learning opportunities are provided at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Erosion Control Research and Training Center (ECRTC). Individuals will earn 11 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for attending and actively participating in the Fundamentals Module.


Module II: Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design

(Successful completion of the Fundamentals Module is required.)


This one-day module presents the following four topics:

• Erosion and Sediment Control Planning Process

• Erosion and Sediment Control Design Process

• Development of a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan Narrative for a Project

• Development of Erosion and Sediment Control Designs for a Project


Individuals will earn 7.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for attending and actively participating in the Planning and Design Module.


Module III: Inspection of Erosion and Sediment Control Best Management Practices (BMPS)

(Successful completion of the Fundamentals Module is required.)

This one-day module presents the following four topics:

• Regulatory Requirements for ILR40 and ILR10 Compliance

• Identifying Correct Installation and Maintenance of Storm Water BMPs

• BMP Maintenance Requirements

• Erosion and Sediment Control Field Guide for Construction Inspection

Individuals will earn 8 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for attending and actively participating in the Inspection Module.
