Materials Testing and Permanent Deformation Model Development for NAPTF Base / Subbase Layers
Impact statement: This applied research provides testing and analysis to establish subgrade support conditions and stabilization requirements in support of the new designs and rehabilitations of pavements at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport.

The objectives in this research are to: (1) establish pavement design inputs for subgrade support, (2) establish soil stabilization requirements with respect to need for stabilization, stabilization admixture(s) selection, and stabilization depth, and finally, (3) estimate subgrade support for various combinations of subgrade stabilization treatments and prepared subgrade conditions. Based on the representative soil samples received from the new O'Hare North Runway (9-27) site, laboratory testing at the University of Illinois Advanced Transportation Research and Engineering Laboratory (ATREL) is undertaken to recommend subgrade stabilization treatments and prepared subgrade conditions.
