| Summary of Project: |
| |
The BCR2A’09 Conference will consist of pre-conference workshops and plenary and technical breakout sessions to take place from Monday, June 29, 2009 till the conference closing reception in the evening of Thursday, July 2, 2009. There are four half-day pre-conference workshops planned for Monday, June 29th; two workshops to be offered related to roads, one on railway track structure, and one on airfield pavement topics. These workshops will have several national and international experts as speakers/presenters in the specific topic areas. The opening plenary session will include keynote presentations of three distinguished invited speakers designated as leaders in the transportation/pavement engineering, geotechnical engineering and railroad engineering areas. There will be one keynote presentation in each of the roads, railways, and airfields transportation modes. During the conference, it is anticipated to have 9 technical breakout sessions with 3 parallel sessions to take place at one time. Each technical session is anticipated to have an average of 4 presentations. The closing plenary session will include overall conference summary, award winning papers and presentations, invitation for the future conference, and other related closing speeches.

Objective of Project: |
| |
The main objective of the BCR2A Conference is to promote efficient design, construction, and maintenance of the transportation infrastructure by addressing issues related to the bearing capacity problems of roads, railways, and airfields.
|
| Expected Outcome: |
| |
The BCR2A Conference is to promote efficient design, construction, and maintenance of the transportation infrastructure by addressing issues related to the bearing capacity problems of roads, railways, and airfields. Bearing capacity refers here to the load taking ability of the transportation facility foundation materials of roads, railways, and airfields. Bearing capacity issues are steadily changing because of ever-increasing traffic volumes and weights, which require stronger and more durable pavements, railroad track structures, and superstructures. New materials and methods are being developed, and new aspects of design and material utilization are being brought into focus. In this context, there is an increasing need for a forum where international experts in this field can exchange experiences and views, and identify the needs for further research and development. The BCR2A’09 Conference aims to provide such a forum for new concepts and innovative solutions, and will be an important meeting for researchers, practicing engineers, and other professionals.
