Fatigue Testing of Brass Breakaway Couplings
| Start Date:
7/1/2009
| End Date:
12/31/2010
| Summary of Project: |
| |
Free-cutting brass, ASTM B16 CDA 360 has been selected as a replacement of Transpo steel breakaway couplers due to lower cost. Constant amplitude fatigue life will be determined through experiment in order to determine expected service life. Stress levels use will be selected to give fatigue life of 10^5 to 10^7 cycles.
Objective of Project: |
| |
Fatigue performance of brass couplers with machined notches will be examined in order to produce a suitable profile of maximum stress levels and service life.
| Expected Outcome: |
| |
Numerical data and an S-N diagram will be produced to aid in the use of the machined brass couplers in field situations.
