Project Title:
Nighttime Construction: Evaluation of Lighting Glare for Highway Construction in IL
Start Date: 1/1/2006
End Date: 12/31/2007
Summary of Project:
This project will evaluate lighting glare during nighttime highway construction in Illinois. It will develop practical tools and objective lighting design criteria for nighttime construction operations. This will include: surveying various type of glare measurement practices; evaluating and recommending objective lighting design criteria to mitigate glare during nighttime construction; developing and evaluating tools for measuring glare; and evaluating and recommending acceptable levels of glare and trespass light.
Objective of Project:
Develop practical tools and objective lighting design criteria for nighttime construction operations. This will include: surveying various type of glare measurement practices; evaluating and recommending objective lighting design criteria to mitigate glare during nighttime construction; developing and evaluating tools for measuring glare; and evaluating and recommending acceptable levels of glare and trespass light.
Expected Outcome:
The results of this study will provide IDOT with a scientific and objective approach for specifying the required lighting standards in nighttime highway construction projects.
