UIUC Takes Second Place in FAA Design Competition

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Design Competition for Universities has announced the award winners for the Airport Operation and Maintenance Design Challenge. Transportation engineering students from UIUC won second prize in this category. The selection was made by a panel of FAA, industry, and academic experts.

The second place submission by Jonguen Baek and Zhen Leng was titled "In-place Hot Mix Asphalt Density Estimation Using Ground Penetrating Radar for Airport Pavement Quality Control and Assurance Activities." (Advisors: Imad Al-Qadi and Samer Lahouar)
