IPS Presents "Introduction to MATLAB as a Computational Tool"

The Illinois Pavement Society (IPS) presented its second workshop: "Introduction to MATLAB as a Computational Tool" on Saturday, October 24, 2009, to 43 participants. The instructors were Eshan Dave, Hasan Ozer, Zhen Leng, Hao Wang, and Behzad Behnia.

The MATLAB computing environment allows matrix manipulation, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms, creation of user interfaces, and interfacing with programs in other languages. An optional feature allows access to computer algebra capabilities. MATLAB has been a very popular tool among researchers and educators to implement a wide variety of numerical algorithms from very simple to the most complicated scientific applications.

Attendees learned how to create and manipulate variables; use conditional statements, loop structures, and functions; how to import and export data; and how to create and manipulate plots.

The attendees also enjoyed a lunch which was provided by ICT.

The IPS was recently formed under the umbrella of the ICT to promote interaction and knowledge exchange about pavement systems among students, researchers, and practitioners. If you are interested in joining or presenting to the IPS, please contact Deb Mishra at dmishra2@illinois.edu.
