ICT Marks Second Anniversary

The Illinois Center for Transportation (ICT) marked its second anniversary this fall. In the two years since the ICT was created, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has funded 59 transportation research projects with a total cost of $8.4 million. ICT Director Imad Al-Qadi reported, "Ten projects have been completed, and the other 49 projects are going strong. This research program could not be accomplished without the strong partnership ICT is building with other universities and private researchers."

In addition to the University of Illinois - both at the Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and Chicago (UIC) campuses - twelve other universities and private researchers are participating in IDOT-funded research through the ICT.

ICT has recently added several innovative projects which include investigating the feasibility of powering IDOT rest areas with wind turbines (PI Patrick Chapman, UIUC), evaluating 3-D laser scanning for construction applications (PI Diane Slattery, SIUE), and evaluating lower-volume, older bridges in Illinois with nondestructive testing technology (PIs Imad Al-Qadi and John Popovics).

The ICT invites you to visit our new website, semimonthly for updates and pictures of its current research projects.

Also for your reference, final reports for ICT's completed projects are conveniently located on the ICT website under the Publications tab.
