Paul Fraser Kent Lecture Series Hosts Impressive Lineup of Speakers
Most recently, on November 16, Carlos F. Dagzano of the University of California, Berkeley and Director of the Center for Future Urban Transport (shown in photo to left), spoke on "Traffic Flow on Networks: Scaling Conjectures, Bounding Approaches, Physical Evidence, and Control Applications."
On November 8, Professor Fred L. Mannering of Purdue University spoke on the "Analysis of Driver's Risk Compensation Response to Vehicle Safety Features." (Top left photo below shows faculty members joining Dr. Mannering for dinner.)
In spring 2007, two other distinguished speakers participated in this lecture series. On April 30, Professor Hani S. Mahmassani from the University of Maryland (top right photo below) spoke on "Advances in Network Assignment Models for Real-Time System Management: Application to Dynamic Pricing and Intergrated Corridor Management."
Professor Carl L. Monismith of the University of California Berkeley (pictured bottom left below) spoke on April 12. His lecture was titled "Fatigue Response of Asphalt Concrete Mixes: A Fifty Year Perspective."
Students, faculty, and other guests of the ICT and the transportation group greatly enjoyed listening to all of the speakers as well as meeting them at receptions that followed their lectures.
This lecture series is sponsored by the Paul Fraser Kent Memorial Fund, which was established in 1977 to provide support for the transportation engineering area. Paul Fraser Kent (BS '20) was President of General Paving in Champaign and was the founder and first president of the Civil Engineering Alumni Association.
The transportation group looks forward to hosting more speakers for this lecture series in 2008.
