Fall 2009 Outreach Highlights
IDOT Career Fair
UIUC transportation students Liz Carrington, Brian Hill, and Deb Mishra demonstrated how to make asphalt at the IDOT Career Fair on October 1. Their interactive exhibit allowed participants to select their own combination of aggregates, bind them together, and then to get their sample's strength tested. Over 500 high school and junior high students attended this event.
Traffic Engineering and Safety Conference
The annual Traffic Engineering and Safety Conference convened in Champaign on October 22-23. The ICT research presented included rolling lane closures and safety performance functions. Additionally, ICT exhibited at this conference.
College of Engineering Industry Advisory Board
The ICT was one of five centers from the College of Engineering invited to exhibit at the College's Industry Advisory Board meeting on October 27. Over 20 representatives of industry attended this event.
Hot Papers
Two papers by ICT and UIUC transportation researchers are listed among Science Direct's Top 25 Hottest Articles from the journals in which they were published for the period April through June 2009.
"A unified potential-based cohesive model of mixed-mode fracture" by Professor Glaucio Paulino, Associate Professor Jeff Roesler, and CEE student Kyoungsoo Park (MS '05) is listed as number one for the Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids.
"Discrete fracture modeling of asphalt concrete" by Professor William Buttlar and CEE alumnus Hyunwook Kim is listed at number 13 for the International Journal of Solids and Structures.
