Jeff Roesler Presents His Research on Thin Concrete Pavements in Chile

In November 2008, Associate Professor and Associate Director of ATREL Jeff Roesler traveled to Santiago, Chili to speak about his cutting-edge research on a new design concept known as Thin Concrete Pavements (TCP). The international seminar spoke at, titled "Solutions, Innovation, and Cost: New Technologies in Pavements," was sponsored by TCPavements, which is also the corporate sponsor of Roesler's research based at ATREL to establish design guidelines for using TCP.

A research team led by Roesler and Graduate Research Assistant Victor Cervantes has already supervised the construction of three consecutive pavement test sections. The test sections were embedded with instruments and will be loaded with the Accelerated Transportation Loading ASsembly (ATLAS), which simulates the effects of real-life traffic. The researchers will use the test results to determine the optimal thickness for TCP at a given traffic level. The study is set to conclude this spring.
