American Railway Engineering Association
(AREA) Proceedings
Beginning in 1900 the American Railway Engineering Association (AREA) published a volume of proceedings from their annual conference. Over the years this evolved into a technical journal called the AREA Bulletin that was published periodically during each year until 1997. These publications contain a wide range of useful information on all aspects of railway engineering and operations that continues to have value to engineers, researchers and historians in industry, government and academia. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign library worked with the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA), the successor organization to AREA, and holder of the copyright for most of these materials, who granted permission to scan and digitize the entire series of Proceedings and make them available on line. AREMA continues to publish a variety of current instructional materials, recommended practices and standards and these are available from them at: http://www.arema.org/publications/
