Ali Hajbabaie, a PhD candidate set to graduate in May 2011, played an integral role in ICT’s research to determine the net effects of using speed photo enforcement to improve work zone safety (R56). The final report for this project, which he co-authored, was recently published on the ICT Publications Page.
Ali has also worked on several other ICT projects including evaluating the Sensys wireless vehicle detection system (R43), evaluating solar powered flashing beacons (R27-59), and evaluating LED vehicular and pedestrian Modules (R27-58). His advisor is Professor Ray Benekohal.
Ali credits ICT for giving him significant opportunities to gain valuable experience. He says, “Being involved in ICT projects from start to finish has improved my team work and leadership abilities. Making monthly presentations to the Illinois Department of Transportation has enhanced my skills in presenting a project. In addition, writing reports and helping in preparing proposals have improved my skills in technical writing.”
After graduation, Ali would like to find a job in academia and continue his research on both signal timing optimization in oversaturated networks and on work zone safety.
Ali grew up in Tehran, the capital of Iran, a city with a population of more than 12 million people. He was at first unsure about moving to a smaller city like Champaign-Urbana but he has been pleasantly surprised. He enjoys C-U’s friendly people and its springtime. He also enjoys playing on the UIUC table tennis team.
Ali has a B.S. and a M.S from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran.
