Investigator Awards for Spring 2010

Imad Al-Qadi was elected as a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for his exemplary leadership and innovation in the civil engineering profession. This extraordinary honor is reserved for only one out of over 7,500 ASCE members, and prior to the 13 Distinguished Members elected this year, only 586 engineers in the 158-year history of ASCE have been honored with this distinction.

Sam Carpenter was chosen for recognition as a Distinguished Graduate of the Zachary Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University.

Khaled El-Rayes has been selected to receive the Best Journal Paper Award of 2009 from the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Journal of Construction Engineering and Management. The paper, co-written with Wallied Orabi, Ahmed B. Senouci and Hassan Al-Derham, is entitled, “Optimizing Postdisaster Reconstruction Planning for Damaged Transportation Networks.”

Liang Liu won the ASCE Outstanding Instructor Award.

Jeffrey Roesler and Yanfeng Ouyang were recently named recipients of the 2010 Xerox Award for Faculty Research by the UIUC College of Engineering.

Erol Tutumluer is chair of the ASCE Pavements Committee, which received the Committee of the Year Award from the ASCE Geo-Institute at the Geo-Florida 2010 annual congress. Imad Al-Qadi also serves on this committee.

Yanfeng Ouyang was elected to serve as the vice chair of the Freight Transportation & Logistics Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Transportation Science and Logistics Society of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). The following year, he will serve as the SIG chair.
