Awards and honors, Summer 2011

ICT congratulates its investigators and student researchers on several recent honors:

ICT Director Imad Al-Qadi has been elected to the Board of Governors for the Transportation and Development Institute (T&DI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). His term will begin October 1, 2011. The T&DI has 15,000 members and a mission of promoting environmentally sensitive transportation and land development.

Behzad Behnia won the 2011 AAPT Scholarship awarded by the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists. This scholarship has been made possible because of the generous donations by many of the members of AAPT. Behzad is a PhD candidate at UIUC advised by Bill Buttlar.

ICT Investigator and UIUC Professor Bill Buttlar will join the UIUC Graduate College as Associate Dean beginning August 16, 2011. He will be working collaboratively with Dean Dutta, the other Associate Deans, and other members of the Graduate College to accomplish the tasks that are necessary for enhancing graduate education and fostering innovation and inclusivity on campus.

ICT Investigator and SIUE Assistant Professor Ryan Fries won two regional/national teaching awards for Civil Engineering. He received the 2011 Central District Excellence in Teaching Award from Chi Epsilon, the National Civil Engineering Honor Society and the 2011 Exceed New Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award from the American Society of Civil Engineering.

ICT student investigator Jaime Hernandez received the 2011 Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Chicago Scholarship Award.
