ICT contributes at high RAP meeting in the Netherlands

8/1/2013

ICT recently participated in the High Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) Workshop held at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. The purpose of the workshop was to encourage use of recycled materials in the construction of highways to the maximum economical and practical extent possible and to explore ways for ensuring that RAP has equal or improved performance over asphalt made from virgin materials.

The High RAP Workshop brought together international experts to exchange information on topics such as:

  • Appraisal of the long-term performance characteristics of high RAP mixtures.
  • Enhancement of the engineering properties of high RAP mixtures by constituent material selection and/or modification at various length scales.
  • Comparison and validation of current mix design procedures for mixtures containing high RAP.
  • A holistic life-cycle assessment–based approach for evaluating long-term pavement life, including environmental considerations.

Al-Qadi states, “The meeting was a great opportunity to hear about the different approaches countries are taking toward using RAP in pavements and to have the chance to visit state-of-the-art plants that are producing 100% RAP.”
