New IDOT policy requires state contractors to complete Erosion Control Workshop

8/1/2013

The Illinois Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Design and Environment recently issued policy D&E-23 regarding erosion and sediment control training. The policy states that after January 1, 2015, engineering consultants with projects subject to National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits will need to meet requirements for IDOT’s erosion and sediment control training. Specific requirements for design consultants and construction inspection consultants and for IDOT Division of Highway, Division of Aeronautics, and Division of Public and Intermodal Transportation employees are defined in the policy.

IDOT and ICT have worked together to develop erosion and sediment control training modules. The ICT website provides information on class modules and schedules. Participants can register on the ICT website. The erosion and sediment control class modules were developed as part of IDOT/ICT project R27-054: Stormwater Pollution, Erosion, and Sediment Control Products Demonstration and Training Center. In addition to the classes, the project also established the Erosion Control Research and Training Center on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
