UIUC names new engineering dean

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign recently announced that Andreas Cangellaris will be its next dean of the College of Engineering. Previously, he served as head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the university.

Cangellaris, who earned a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley, is broadly recognized for his research in applied and computational electromagnetics and its applications to signal integrity of electronic circuits and systems. His research has produced several design methods and computer tools that are used widely in the microelectronics industry. He has written or co-written more than 250 papers. Cangellaris joined the Illinois faculty in 1997 and served as head of his department since 2008. He was an Associate Provost Fellow on the Urbana campus from 2006 to 2008; in that role, he oversaw the review and revision of guidelines for recuitment, promotion, and tenure; collaborated to create campuswide interdisciplinary initiatives; and broadened campus outreach activities.
