ICT participates in second T&DI Congress

8/1/2014

The Transportation and Development Institute (T&DI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) held its second congress, with the theme “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: Connections to Future Developments” in Orlando, Florida, June 8–11.

Once again, ICT showed a strong presence at the four-day extensive technical program, which brought together practitioners, researchers, designers, and contractors from nine countries around the world. ICT investigators and students gave presentations on several topics; ICT investigator Hasan Ozer chaired a committee on asphalt mixtures; and ICT director Imad Al-Qadi, recipient of the 2014 Francis C. Turner Award, delivered the Turner Lecture.

This year’s technical program consisted of five concurrent technical tracks and technical tours of the Walt Disney World Transportation System and SunRail, central Florida’s new commuter rail line. The congress’s five technical tracks featured diverse topics including design, sustainability, construction, operation, rehabilitation and reuse, and emerging technologies. Discussions were focused on the advances in transportation and modes of travel as well as interconnections with new developments such as airport cities, planned neighborhoods, and urban city centers.
