IDOT Summer Program supports B. S., M. S. student researchers

8/1/2015

ICT offers a research program opportunity for undergraduate and master’s degree students interested in transportation engineering. The program, sponsored by the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration, provides students with hands-on experience by giving them the opportunity to work directly with faculty members on innovative topics in transportation engineering research.

Four students from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign were chosen for the program this year:

  • Eric Etzwiler, working with Professor Imad Al-Qadi on an IDOT project titled Construction and Performance Monitoring of Various Asphalt Mixes (R27-161)
  • Andony Landivar-Macias, working with Professor Timothy Stark on an IDOT project titled Modified Standard Penetration Test–Based Drilled Shaft Design Method for Weak Rocks, Phase II (R27-145)
  • Juan Carlos Martinez Mori, working with Professor Daniel Work on an IDOT project titled Improving the Effectiveness of Smart Work Zone Technologies (R27-155)
  • Ahmad Shams, working with Professor BK Sharma on an IDOT project titled Chemical and Compositional Characterization of Recycled Binders (R27-162)

The program will be offered yearly, with the continued sponsorship of IDOT and FHWA. Watch ICT’s website for announcements about next year’s program and how to apply, or send an email to ICTProjectManagement@illinois.edu.
