ICT faculty updates
8/1/2016
Civil engineering faculty have continued to travel around the world to share their knowledge and expertise. The Transportation Group is committed to an open presentation of their research in countries such as Guatemala, Peru, and China, as well as throughout the United States.
Jeffery Roesler, affiliated ICT faculty member and professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, presented again in South America in June after presenting in Guatemala in May. This time he was a presenter at the Seminario Internacional de Pisos y Pavimentos in Lima, Peru, presenting “Trends and Innovation in Concrete: Roads, streets, and industrial pavements.”
The purpose of the conference was to give a forum for researchers to present the latest in design and construction techniques for concrete floors and pavements and was sponsored by Durable Concrete Solutions. Also presenting at this conference was UIUC alum and recent Kent Lecture presenter, Lev Khazanovich.
Professor Erol Tutumluer of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering just accepted a new appointment with TRB as the Chair of the AFP00 Section on Geological and Geoenvironmental Engineering. AFP00 Section oversees 7 committees including the AFP70 Aggregates Committee which he has been chairing for over 5 years.
Professor Tutumluer also attended the International Summit on Railroad Engineering and Transportation Geotechnics, which was held for the first time at the Central South University (CSU) located in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan Province, China on June 11-12, 2016. The summit provided a forum for exchange of knowledge on recent developments, new concepts and innovative solutions in railroad engineering and transportation geotechnics. At the summit, Erol was awarded the 2016 Yangtze River (Chang Jiang) Scholar award, the highest academic award issued to an individual in higher education by China’s Ministry of Education.
Several CEE faculty were recently promoted, including two ICT affiliated researchers:
- Paramita Mondal promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure
- Yanfeng Ouyang promoted to Full Professor
