Several reports from recently completed, IDOT-sponsored projects are now available on ICT’s website:

R27-045-T1: Evaluation of 3-D Laser Scanning Equipment: 2018 Final Report. As a follow-up to ICT Project R27-030, Evaluation of 3-D Laser Scanning, this report provides findings of an evaluation of 3-D laser scanning equipment to determine the tangible costs versus benefits and the manpower savings realized by using the equipment in place of or in conjunction with conventional surveying methods. The Trimble TX5 laser scanning unit was used for this study.

R27-SP36: Behavior of Epoxy-Coated Textured Reinforcing Bars. This report addresses some of the issues with using epoxy-coated reinforcement in bridge decks. In order to improve bond and reduce the formation of cracks, IDOT proposed texturizing the surface of epoxy-coated bars. The report provides the results from a preliminary study on the bond strength of reinforcing bars with this new style of coating.

R27-127: Evaluation of Adaptive Signal Control Technology—Volume 2: Comparison of Base Condition to the First Year after Implementation. This report discusses the use of adaptive signal control technologies (ASCT) as a way to make traffic signal operation more responsive to real-time traffic demand. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) expressed interest in field evaluation of an ASCT for deployment at intersections throughout the state and this report documents a “before and after” study that evaluates the performance of the ASCT in terms of traffic safety and traffic operational efficiency.
