ICT showcases research at The Science of Transportation

Illinois Center for Transportation representatives highlighted University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign pavement and materials research May 19 at The Science of Transportation, an event hosted by The Science Coalition in Washington, D.C.

The event brought together more than 130 leaders from academia, industry and government to demonstrate how federally supported university research improves the safety and resiliency of transportation infrastructure. Researchers from nine Science Coalition member institutions presented projects during the program.

Ramez Hajj, U. of I. assistant professor, and Kristi Anderson, ICT associate director for finance and administration, shared ICT’s work to create next-generation paving materials, simulate pavement life and develop transportation technologies with real-world impact.

Hajj also shared his work to advance bio-asphalt technologies that convert organic waste into sustainable pavement binders and fuels, supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
