ICT student spotlight: Qazi Aurangzeb

Qazi Aurangzeb, a doctoral candidate in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has assisted with two ICT projects: 

• R27-011: Determination of Usable Residual Asphalt Binder in RAP
• R27-037: Impact of High RAP Content on Structural and Performance Properties of Asphalt Mixes

Aurangzeb, who aims to finish his Ph.D. this August, is writing a dissertation on optimizing the use of high RAP content in asphalt. Apart from a multiaxial characterization of mixtures with high RAP content, his dissertation also examines the life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA) and life-cycle assessment (LCA) of using high RAP content in asphalt mixtures.
Aurangzeb says he appreciates being able to conduct research at in a high-caliber facility like ATREL. He also enjoys the sense of team between students and faculty and states that this dynamic makes the work more enjoyable.
In his spare time, Aurangzeb enjoys spending time with his wife and young daughter, Layaan. While he doesn’t get to experience it much in Illinois, he also enjoys mountain hiking. He also likes photography and watching cricket, tennis, and soccer.
