IDOT and ICT welcome Ryan Culton

Ryan Culton, P.E., is the new Research Implementation Engineer in the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Bureau of Materials and Physical Research’s Technical Research Coordination Unit, which is responsible for oversight of the department’s federally funded research, including research through the Illinois Center for Transportation (ICT).

In this position, Ryan will be facilitating the implementation of IDOT’s research with ICT, the Transportation Research Board, National Cooperative Highway Research Program, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Technical Service Program, and the federal Transportation Pooled Fund program.

The department is committed to utilizing implementable research to improve the state of the practice and to ensure that IDOT is effectively and efficiently meeting its mission to provide safe, cost-effective transportation for Illinois in ways that enhance quality of life, promote economic prosperity, and demonstrate respect for our environment.

Ryan comes from the Illinois Department of Labor, where he worked in the Springfield and Chicago offices. Before that, he worked for 10 years in the engineering consulting industry. Ryan has a B.S. in civil and environmental engineering and a master’s in business administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
