The Kent Seminar Series

2/1/2016

ICT wrapped up another season of the Kent Seminar Series on December 3 with a presentation by University of Illinois graduate student Sushobhan Sen, speaking on the topic of albedo, or reflection coefficient, as it relates to pavement engineers.

Sen was the last of a lively group of speakers who presented this year, which included UIUC professor Youssef Hashash speaking on advances in computer models of ballast and other non-uniform particles that make up the basis of railroad tracks; Halil Ceylan of the University of Iowa speaking on refining the popular Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide for local areas; and ICT principal investigator and professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Ryan Fries, on evaluating how IDOT is conveying freeway travel information in real time.

This season featured some of the liveliest and most well-attended seminars to date for the Kent Lecture, including a strong showing from online visitors joining via GoToMeeting.

Other speakers from the fall season included Amlan Mukharjee from Michigan Tech, Lev Khazanovich of the University of Minnesota, Kurt Pfeifer of Dynatest, and UIUC PhD candidates Jamie Hernandez, Alex Brand, Negin Alemazkoor, Issam Qamhia, and Siyang Xie, presenting their research, which has been performed in conjunction with ICT.

The Spring Kent series started on January 28 with a safety lecture.  You can always visit us at ICT in person to attend, or you can join the online seminar by visiting our website ΜΆ the link to the current lecture will appear 30 minutes before a scheduled talk and you can join at any time thereafter.
