Illinois Center for Transportation is no stranger to visitors, and recently we welcomed some new faces hoping to bring fresh, exciting innovations to the asphalt pavement field.

ICT Director Imad Al-Qadi with Rantoul Village Administrator Scott Eisenhauer admire ATLAS
Rick Snider, Charles Smith, Imad Al-Qadi, and Robert Flider discuss future development at ATREL.

Rantoul’s new Village Administrator, Scott Eisenhauer, visited the Advanced Transportation Research and Engineering Laboratory and the Accelerated Transportation Loading System (ATLAS) in early November. Eisenhauer recently accepted his new position and showed great enthusiasm about the future of Rantoul! Prior to becoming Rantoul’s village administrator, he was the mayor of Danville, Illinois for more than 15 years.

ICT also had the pleasure of having a second visitor, Peter Fox, in November. Fox is the founder of Fox Development Corporation, a real estate firm that develops, manages, and leases approximately 1.5 million square feet of office and retail space in Champaign, Illinois. Fox is passionate about the role the University of Illinois and its scientific researchers can play in building the community.

The purpose of these gatherings was to discuss the vision of the Smart Transportation Infrastructure Initiative. This initiative is preparing to build a two-mile connected and autonomous vehicle test track on more than 250 acres of land in the Rantoul community.
