Transportation Research Board does it again

Inclement weather was no match for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s transportation group, which traveled to Washington, D.C. for the 99th annual Transportation Research Board Meeting earlier in January.

For Angeli Jayme, a UIUC doctoral candidate, the most exciting part was, “strengthening and creating new professional networks.”

But that’s not all Jayme took away from the three-day conference. She was also awarded the Academy of Pavement Science and Engineering Outstanding Student Member Award.

“It was a pleasant surprise,” she said.

Izak Said, a UIUC doctoral candidate, couldn’t help but see TRB as a “good platform” for the latest and greatest in transportation.

“The presence of the industry (at TRB) allows us researchers to pinpoint their problems and needs,” he said, “which allow us to shift our own research to better benefit them.”

The poster session was an absolute favorite of Punit Singhvi, a UIUC doctoral student, who said it provided him with exposure to a variety of transportation research.

“It was a perfect platform to learn from what others are doing and at the same time, share your research with the world,” he said.

As for the impact of the conference? More than 5,000 presentations along with approximately 800 sessions and workshops were provided to attendees.

When it is all said and done, you can bet UIUC faculty, students and staff are already excited for next year’s Jan. 24-28, 2021, conference. We’ll see you there!

At the transportation reception, attendees had the opportunity to discuss the latest in transportation and network with future potential endeavors.
