New ICT-IDOT reports, projects
1/15/2021
Illinois Center for Transportation is pleased to announce the publication of reports for the following Illinois Department of Transportation-sponsored projects:
“R27-164: Design of Living Barriers to Reduce the Impacts of Snowdrifts on Illinois Freeways”
Here researchers investigate the design and placement of living snow fences, such as trees or shrubs, to help reduce blowing snow on roadways as well as winter maintenance expenditures.
“R27-178-1: Bridge Decks: Mitigation of Cracking and Increased Durability — Materials Solution (Phase III)”
The aim of this project is to develop a concrete mix that will reduce bridge deck cracking caused by shrinkage, which will increase service life of bridges.
“R27-178-2: Bridge Decks: Mitigation of Cracking and Increased Durability — Phase III”
Researchers built three bridge deck models using different concrete mixtures to determine the effectiveness of techniques to reduce bridge deck cracking.
“R27-191: Evaluating the Costs and Benefits of Snow Fences in Illinois: Phase 2”
The goal of this project is to examine the costs and benefits of three types of snow fences and to provide recommendations for working with private landowners for snow fence installation.
“R27-192: Maritime Freight Data Collection Systems and Database to Support Performance Measures and Market Analyses”
Here researchers investigate Illinois’ marine transportation system while building a database to measure the performance of freight to, from and through Illinois in order to enhance its safety, efficiency and reliability.
“R27-193-4: Evaluation of Premature Cracking in Urban Concrete Pavement”
Here researchers investigate the causes of premature cracking in concrete pavement throughout Illinois to help build longer-lasting roadways.
ICT is also excited to announce the start of the following IDOT-sponsored projects:
“R27-SP45: Quantifying Impacts of Prolonged Events on Transit System Ridership”
Here researchers seek to understand the long-term impacts of COVID-19 on travel behavior and transportation systems.
“R27-SP46: Bridge Deterioration and Preservation Model Refinement/Development”
The aim of this project is to review and evaluate IDOT’s statewide bridge deterioration models in order to enhance their performance.
