2013 Engineering Open House

Advanced Transportation Research and Engineering Lab graduate students staffed an exhibit at the 2013 Engineering Open House, which was held March 8 and 9 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. To see how aggregates are combined to become asphalt pavement, those who visited the booth were treated to a “sundae” of aggregate and binder—which was actually cereal, candy, and chocolate syrup.

The Engineering Open House has been an Illinois tradition for more than 90 years and draws approximately 20,000 visitors annually. Its goal is to create a more educated, science-oriented culture with the University of Illinois College of Engineering at the forefront of technological advancements. It also seeks to inspire the next generation of engineers and lay the foundation of engineering being used to solve the complex problems facing society.
