Spring 2016 Kent Seminar Series complete, resumes in fall

5/1/2016

The Spring 2016 Kent Seminar Series took a slightly different tack by offering several lectures that consisted of  two short presentations, rather than one longer one, in an effort to disseminate more student research while keeping the talks as focused as possible. The lectures presented during the Spring 2016 semester were as follows:

  • Reza Osouli, assistant professor, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; and Hasan Kazmee, PhD candidate, UIUC: Plasticity Requirements of the Aggregates as Subbase, Base, Surface, and Shoulder Courses; Evaluation of Aggregate Subgrade Materials Used as Pavement Subgrade/Granular Subbase
  • Linbing Wang, professor, Virginia Tech, Computer-Aided Mix Design– Current Status and Future Perspective
  • Hasan Ozer, research assistant, UIUC; and Wenting Hou, PhD candidate, UIUC: Sustainable Aggregates Production–Green Applications for Aggregate By-Products; Testing Protocols to Ensure Performance of High Asphalt Binder Replacement Mixes Using RAP and RAS
  • Rebekah Yang, graduate student, UIUC: Using a Life-Cycle Assessment Tool to Evaluate Sustainable Strategies for Pavement Construction
  • Jeff LaHucik and Hajin Choi, graduate students, UIUC: Mechanistic-Empirical Design Implementation and Monitoring for Rigid Pavements; Ultrasonic Tomography for Concrete Infrastructure Condition Assessment and Quality Assurance
  • Jake Hiller, associate professor, Michigan Technological University: Understanding Permanent and Reversible Moisture Warping in Jointed Plain Concrete Pavements
  • Marshall Thompson, professor emeritus, UIUC: Mechanical-Empirical Flexible Pavement Design: Issues and Challenges
  • Huseyin Boler, graduate student, UIUC: Field Investigation of Railroad Bridge Approach Track Substructure Behavior
  • Imran Hossain, assistant professor, Bradley University: Thermodynamics Between RAP/RAS and Virgin Aggregates During Asphalt Concrete Production
  • Scott Schmidt, graduate student, UIUC: Railway Ballast Permeability–Preliminary Laboratory Test Results
  • Mark Wayne, director of application technology, Tensar International: Mechanical Stabilization of Unbound Layers and Incorporation of Benefits in AASHTO ’93 and M-E Analysis of Flexible Pavements
  • Anand Puppala, associate dean of research, College of Engineering, University of Texas at Arlington: Transportation Infrastructure Geotechnics–Expansive Soils, Stabilization Design and Sustainability Studies

The Kent Seminar Series will resume with the Fall 2016 semester. Information about upcoming lectures is listed on ICT’s website. Presentations begin at 12:30 p.m. every Thursday at ATREL during the academic year. To join remotely, check ICT’s website up to 30 minutes before the lecture begins for login information.
