Another successful year of Documentation of Contract Quantities certification

Illinois Center for Transportation is proud to announce another successful execution of the Documentation of Contract Quantities Workshop season.

The Documentation of Contract Quantities Workshop is administered by ICT on behalf of the Illinois Department of Transportation as its Specific Task Training course S-14. Individuals who successfully complete the workshop receive certification in the subject matter in addition to 18 Professional Development Hours. Documentation certification is required for all consultants to become prequalified with IDOT to perform construction inspection work, as well as other prequalification categories.

Many local agencies also require this certification to provide construction inspection services on transportation projects. This workshop provides participants with the means to document contract quantities, related to field measurements, calculations, and material quality in compliance with IDOT and federal requirements. This workshop takes place in nine locations across Illinois.

A special thank you goes out to the Documentation of Contract Quantities instructors, including Mark Neale (IDOT Central Bureau), Brett Schwalb (IDOT), Monroetta Gutterridge (IDOT), Dave Sierakowski, Shelley Costello, Greg Renshaw, (ICT) and David Lippert (ICT) for training more than 600 engineers and engineering technicians in Illinois this season.

“For me, teaching is both rewarding and challenging.” Renshaw said of his educating experiences. “It is rewarding when I see the expression of understanding on a person’s face, knowing I had the opportunity to help them. The challenge for any teacher is finding the message that connects with the audience in front of you, and keeping that audience engaged.”

Neale couldn’t agree more with Renshaw.

“Those moments when an instructor realizes that the class fully understands the subject matter . . . brings a certain amount of fulfillment,” he said. “With this being a three-day, IDOT policy-intensive class, it is easy as a student to lose interest at times. With ICT’s assistance over the past several years, this course has evolved into being more engaging, more interesting, and more readily understood than ever before.”

The next season of documentation workshops are in the midst of preparation, with registration expected to launch Oct. 1.
