Illinois Center for Transportation is pleased to announce the publication of reports for the following Illinois Department of Transportation-sponsored projects:

R27-200: Construction of Pedestrian Infrastructure along Transit Corridors
Here researchers seek to identify barriers to pedestrian access to transit in the Chicago suburbs and provide recommendations through reviewing policies, plans and programs as well as conducting interviews with transit agencies, stakeholders and residents.

R27-203: Truck-Platoonable Pavement Sections in Illinois’ Network
Researchers seek to quantify the effects of truck platooning on flexible pavements and provide guidelines for Illinois. They develop a framework to analyze the platoonability of Illinois’ highway network, considering the volume and capacity of a roadway as well as the expected number of highway exit and entry conflicts.

R27-SP44: Current and Future Best Practices for Pothole Repair in Illinois
The goal of this project is to examine pothole patching materials, equipment and techniques used by IDOT and other departments of transportation in order to provide recommendations for improvement.

ICT is also excited to announce the start of the following IDOT-sponsored projects:

R27-228: Illinois, a Leader in Mobility 4.0 and Beyond
The goal of this project is to prepare for connected and autonomous vehicles and technologies in Illinois by establishing a strategy that will simplify multi-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder efforts as well as leverage available resources.

R27-SP47: Evaluating the Benefits of Implementing Mobile Road Weather Information Sensors
Here researchers seek to study the potential benefits of road weather information sensors, which measure real-time roadway conditions. They aim to use the sensors to better evaluate Illinois’ roadways in the winter and optimize its deicing procedures.
