108th annual T.H.E. Conference

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering held the 108th Illinois Transportation and Highway Engineering conference on March 1-2.

More than 1,200 engineers, transportation officials, technicians, faculty and students were in attendance.

The two-day, in-person event offered presentations on connected, autonomous and electric vehicles, transportation safety, policy, and issues critical to the safe and economical movement of people and goods in Illinois and across the world.

Imad Al-Qadi, Illinois Center for Transportation director and UIUC Bliss Professor of Engineering, discussed the Illinois Autonomous and Connected Track, a proposed high-speed connected and autonomous vehicle test track in Rantoul, Illinois. He also spoke about how to optimize truck platooning in relation to connected and autonomous transportation.

Conference attendees had the opportunity to take a ride in an autonomous vehicle with CEE professor Alireza Talebpour, hear from leading transportation agency and industry members as well as view exhibits from various sponsors.
