ATREL hosts several visitors

Dalian University of Technology (2 professors and 10 students) visited ATREL in early August (pictured to left). The Dalian group included students and faculty with specialties in civil engineering, construction management, building environment and facility engineering and traffic engineering. Many of the students are interested in pursuing studies in America and were interested in learning more about the University of Illinois, the ATREL facility, and the Illinois Center for Transportation.

Ms. Guofang Wu, Vice Dean of the School of Transportation Science and Engineering (STSE) at the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), China, visited ATREL on the afternoon of August 18. Ms. Wu was hosted by Drs. Al-Qadi and Tutumluer who discussed various collaboration activities with her, including short-term faculty/student exchanges/visits.

On September 16, ATREL welcomed Dr. Morris de Beer, a principal researcher at The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa and international expert in road pavement engineering. Dr. de Beer spoke to ATREL faculty and students about “Stress-In-Motion (SIM) Tire Technology and Pavement Design.”

The Office of Planning and Programming at IDOT held their annual Fall Planning Conference in Champaign on September 22-23. This conference brings together IDOT Planning Staff and staff from the state’s Metropolitan Planning Organizations. As part of the conference, the attendees toured the ICT research facility (pictured right). Dr. Yanjun Qiu, Professor of Transportation Geotechnics and Director of International Office from Southwest Jiaotong University visited ATREL in early October. He is pictured below with University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign graduate student, Deb Mishra.
