Work receives award

Dr. Daniel B. Work, Assistant Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign, was awarded the 2011 Best PhD Dissertation Award at the 2011 14th International Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in Washington, DC on October 6, 2011.

“The award is given annually for the best dissertation in any ITS area that is innovative and relevant to practice. This award is established to encourage doctoral research that combines theory and practice, makes in-depth technical contributions, or is interdisciplinary in nature, having the potential to contribute to the ITSS and broaden the ITS topic areas from either the methodological or application perspectives.”

Dr. Work joined the CEE Department at UIUC in December, 2010. His research interests are control, estimation, and optimization of transportation systems, mobile sensing, and inverse modeling and data assimilation. Dr. Work was a guest researcher at Microsoft Research, Redmond in 2010 and a visiting researcher at Nokia Research Center, Palo Alto from 2008-2010. Go to: Dan Work’s Webpage.
