Student spotlight: Jessica Lund

Jessica Lund, a master’s student in civil engineering at Bradley University, has assisted on two ICT projects:

• R27-97: Evaluation of Flashing Yellow Arrows (FYA) for Protected/Permissive Left Turn (PPLT) Control
• R27-111: Effects of Intersection Right-Turn Island Design and Skew on Safety & Operations

Lund states that she is grateful to have been included in these projects because they have allowed her to develop problem-solving skills, apply theories learned in the classroom, and develop research methodologies. She also credits her ICT research projects with developing her skills as a team member. She states, “Teamwork is an essential part of being an engineer, and working on these projects has allowed me to experience working with others on a daily basis.”

Lund expects to complete her thesis investigating older drivers’ response to left turn signal indications in spring of 2013. She is advised by Dr. Kerrie Schattler and currently works for Engineering Enterprises in Sugar Grove, Illinois. An avid fan of keeping active and watching sports, Lund cheers for the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears.
