Awards and honors

The achievements of several ICT investigators and students have recently been recognized with the following awards:

  1. CEE graduate student Angeli Gamez won first place in the Collegiate Technical Poster Competition organized by the Society of Women Engineers Conference (WE16), held October 27-28, 2016 in Philadelphia.
  2. Professors Erol Tutumluer and Jeff Roesler and graduate students Scott Schmidt and Jeff LaHucik of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) won the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Geotechncial Engineering Section (AFS00) 2016 Best Paper Award for their paper “Cement-Treated Bases Containing Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement, Quarry Byproducts, and Fibers,” which is based on ICT/IDOT Project (R27-125): Sustainable Aggregates Production—Green Applications for Aggregate By-Products. The authors of the paper will receive their award at the upcoming 96th TRB 2017 Annual Meeting in January, 2017.
  3. Professor Jeff Roesler and CEE student Sushobhan Sen received the 11th International Conference on Concrete Pavements’ Bengt F. Friberg Award for Outstanding Paper by a Young Author for their paper “Albedo as an Engineering Property of Concrete Pavements.”
  4. UIUC CEE students Erman Gungor and Priyanka Sarker were selected to receive a $10,000 research stipend each for the academic year 2016-2017 as part of the Graduate Research Award Program on Public-Sector Aviation Issues. The award is sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of U.S. Department of Transportation and administered by the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) of the Transportation Research Board/National Academies.
