Bituminous Paving Conference Brings Together Experts on Highway Improvement

The Illinois Center for Transportation plans and hosts the annual Illinois Bituminous Paving Conference. The program is designed for people actively involved in asphalt construction—highway engineers, government officials, contractors, consultants, university researchers, and representatives of firms supplying goods and services to the industry. The conference draws speakers, attendees, and exhibitors from across the United States.

The first conference was held in 1960 and organized by the National Asphalt Paving Association. It was originally envisioned and implemented by Moreland Herrin, who was a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At the 50th annual conference in 2009, Herrin was honored for his many contributions to the conference.
