Abstract and Bio

Tactical and strategic perspectives on the subject of environmental sustainability in pavement development will be presented in this lecture. Bhat will explore federal and state green public procurement policies, as well as initiatives by construction material industries to fulfill these requirements. He will also focus on the concept of net-zero, examining its origins and significance within the context of pavement sustainability. Bhat will also share initiatives by the asphalt industry concerning net-zero pavements, spanning both upstream and downstream processes. He will also spotlight potential interdisciplinary needs and opportunities that the next generation of engineers might explore.

Bhat is presently serving as a sustainability engineer at the Asphalt Institute. Holding a doctorate in civil and environmental engineering from Michigan Technological University, Bhat specializes in creating life cycle information models for environmental product declarations. Certified as a Life Cycle Assessment Practitioner by the American Center for Life Cycle Assessment, Bhat collaborates with stakeholders in both the pavement and environmental sustainability sectors. His vision is to advance tactical and strategic initiatives in pavement sustainability.
