Abstract and Bio

Electric mobility is expanding rapidly worldwide, despite challenges and paradigm shifts. This seminar will present trends in the evolution of electric road mobility, as well as key challenges and opportunities for electric vehicle services, particularly their impact on electricity distribution grids. The case of Portugal — a pioneer in the use of electric vehicles in Southern Europe — will also be discussed, including issues of energy metering and billing of DC energy in fast chargers.

Pereirinha is an associate professor at ISEC, Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra, Portugal, and holds a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Coimbra. A senior member of IEEE, he is chair of the Portuguese Chapter of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society and a researcher at INESC Coimbra.
